 Mon Laferte: The Voice That Defies Genres

Mon Laferte is a Chilean musician, singer, songwriter, and visual artist who explores different Latin rhythms.She was born Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte on May 2, 1983, in Viña del Mar. At age 13, she began studying music at the conservatory in her hometown.She then began performing live in bars and small venues, eager to showcase her own songs.


At the end of 2009, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and the treatment prevented her from continuing to perform on stage. This led her to return with a new name, reflecting her desire to start from scratch: “Mon Laferte.”

In 2011, she released her first independently produced album, Desechable. The following year, she composed Vuelve, Por Favor, the theme song for the Peruvian film El Buen Pedro. She was a judge on the Chilean version of the reality show Factor X, alongside El Puma Rodríguez, among other artists. At the same time, she sang in the Mexican female heavy metal band Mystica Girls.

On January 7, 2013, she released her third album, entitled Tornasol. That year, she played Eli in the Peruvian film Japy Ending.

On January 31, 2015, Mon Laferte Vol. 1 was released, and she filled the Carpa Intolerante stage at Vive Latino on March 25. In the middle of the year, she signed with Universal Music on the sub-label Discos Valiente, reissuing Mon Lafert Vol. 1, an album that received Gold and Platinum records in Mexico for sales.

In 2016, she was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album.

At the beginning of 2018, on February 2, he released his new single “Antes de ti” on digital platforms, and on May 4, a Japanese version was released.Both versions were released as a vinyl single, with the Spanish version on side A and the Japanese version on side B.On November 9, 2018, she released “Norma,” an album consisting of 10 songs and featuring El David Aguilar on “Si Alguna Vez.”

On February 24, 2020, Mon Laferte took to Chile's most important stage to showcase her charm, energy, and talent in a flawless performance that had the Quinta Vergara crowd rocking. The singer performed her greatest hits and received the Silver and Gold Seagull Awards.

On January 21, 2021, he released a song titled “Se me va a quemar el corazón” (My heart is going to burn). Days later, he released the video, in which he allegorically and through dance shows the story of a romantic relationship with ups and downs, despair, pressure, and disappointment, culminating in one of the people involved being cast as the “emotional butcher” and the other being left lying in the ring.

In February 2021, he released his new version of “Se me va a quemar el corazón” with the band El Limón.

On April 8, he released a song with Gloria Trevi titled “La Mujer” and thus launched his new album titled “Seis.” In September and October, he toured the United States.
